Surprisingly easy to make. A nice dessert for cold, wintery nights!

INGREDIENTS

  • 9” deep baking tray (lightly oiled)
  • 4 large apples (peeled, cored and sliced)
  • handful of mixed berries

CRUMBLE

  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup oats
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 110g grams softened butter (1 stick)

CINNAMON SUGAR

  • ¼ cup granulated sugar (white sugar)
  • 1 tsp cinnamon

METHOD

  1. Preheat oven to 350F (180C)
  2. Mix cinnamon sugar ingredients and set aside
  3. Mix crumble ingredients in a bowl, rubbing the butter in with your hands until the mixture becomes crumbly like breadcrumbs. Don’t overwork the mixture.
  4. Place half the crumble mixture in the bottom of the greased pan and press it down. Place half the sliced apples on top in a layer. Scatter a handful of berries over the apples and add another layer of apples on top.
  5. Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar on top of the apples. You may not need the whole mix~ just give it a light dusting.
  6. Add the rest of the crumble mixture on top. It helps to make sure the berries are covered as they can turn bitter when overcooked.
  7. Bake in oven for around 40-50 minutes until just golden on top.
