A simple and delicious comforting meal of Indonesian braised beef in gravy.

Ingredients:

  • 1kg beef, cubed or in thin strips (stewing steak)
  • 2 whole cloves
  • 2 tbsp. soy sauce
  • 1 small onion
  • 1 tbsp. oil
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup water (or enough to almost cover the meat)

Method:

  1. Slice onion lengthwise and fry on medium heat in a little oil until light brown
  2. Add meat and cook until sealed
  3. Add water, soy sauce, cloves and nutmeg and mix well
  4. Cook on low heat until the meat is really tender and the gravy has reduced (~50mins)
